Our October Amigo of the Month is not 1 but 4 Amigos and they are the wonderful Clare and her family, the Warick-Smiths!

We are very excited to welcome this lovely family to the Avenue Hall of Fame, so without further ado… 🥁
_____________

So who is in the gang, and how did you hear about us? 🤔

“Firstly, our names are Patrick, Clare, Lizzie, and William, and we were recommended to you by friends who had been to one of your classes as a family and raved about it.”🪩

You decided to spend Patrick’s 60th with us – we are honoured! 🎁

“Yes, we have made a conscious effort recently to prioritise experiences over material things for birthday presents because we enjoy getting together as a family, and this seemed like a great idea as we all love food too!”

What a great idea!

What was your favourite dish to make in the Mexican Class? 🇲🇽

“The chilli recipe was definitely a favourite dish we made in the class. I loved the effect that the beef stock and the tequila had on the flavours of a much-loved dish.” 🍻

What is the most obscure thing that you have made in the kitchen? 🔎

“The most obscure thing we have cooked probably has to be the crab we cooked on holiday on Vancouver Island. We went to choose the crab from the harbour, and when we brought it back to the cabin, we were provided with a huge pan over a log fire and an axe to dispatch the crab. 🦀 🇨🇦

The children were small, and after getting over the shock of watching the crab go from the harbour to the plate in a short space of time, they loved extracting the meat from the shell.”

That sounds like fun and so good for the kids to get the true farm to table experience!

What is the family’s favourite meal in your household? 🤗

“Our comfort food would have to be a Sunday Roast, mainly because it usually means family eating together, but who doesn’t love roast potatoes and parsnips with all the accompaniments! ✨”

We couldn’t agree more and if we say so ourselves we teach a mean Sunday Roast Class!

Do you have a personal favourite comfort food, and why does it hold a special place in your heart? 🫶

“We all love different flavours, so a popular meal at home is what we call a ‘messy tea.’ Rather like tapas, we make lots of small dishes to share, each using our favourite ingredients. The boys love chorizo, so that usually features, and Lizzie loves experimenting with unusual ingredients, so we have a cupboard full of strange-sounding spices and pastes that she has bought for a special dish.”

What a great idea – I think we will adopt this for our next Avenue team party!

Are there any flavours/ingredients that you simply could not live without in your kitchen!? 🌶️

“The flavours and ingredients that we couldn’t live without would depend on who you asked. Patrick’s would be anchovies, and William’s would be chorizo. I could not cook without fresh vegetables, and Lizzie’s answer would probably depend on what day you asked her, as she loves all sorts of flavours and ingredients.” 💕

What class would you like to do in the future?

“Lizzie wants to bring her friends along to the Bottomless Brunch, but I would like to do the Italian Cooking Class. We will definitely be back.” 🍝

Finally, whose birthday is next, and will you be doing something food-related? 🥳

William’s birthday is coming up next month, and Lizzie is getting him a Taste Film London experience, so yes, we will all be trying another food-related present. 🎉

These have been brilliant responses with lots of fun family ideas to do together that we will note for ourselves, thank you Clare! We can’t wait to see the Warick-Smith family back again soon! ❤️
