Meet Sandar – February 2025’s Amigo of The Month!

How did you hear about The Avenue?
During my vacation, I had the chance to take a cooking class in the UK. After researching online, I found THE AVENUE and decided to fly from the Bahamas to London to learn some fantastic cooking skills. Wow, talk about dedication to deliciousness!

How long have you been joining classes?
I joined classes in July 29 2024 till 10 Aug 2024.

Which classes have you done?
I  completed a two-week Chalet Host Course and, during my time at The Avenue, I also attended evening classes, including Jamaican Cooking, Sushi Workshop, Paste de Nata, Peruvian Cooking Class, and Greek Cooking Class. It was an incredible experience, and I spent two weeks blending Eastern and Western cooking styles.

What was your favourite class at The Avenue?
That’s a tough question! I used to dislike pie dishes, but after cooking with Diana, I discovered how delicious chicken pie and fish pie can be. I even went out and bought the same pie pan we used in class. Sounds like Diana not only converted you into a pie lover but also a pie pan enthusiast

What’s your favourite dish to cook that you learnt with us?
There’s so much to choose from, but Paste de Nata is my go-to dessert to share with friends. It will definitely be my all time snack for picnics. A big thank you to Connie for the wonderful class. You have some lucky friends!!

What was your favourite dish to eat at The Avenue?
The Peruvian Cooking Class is my favourite. The recipes are both healthy and fresh. We started with Ceviche, followed by Peruvian Grilled Chicken with Quinoa Salad—it was heavenly. Thank you, Richard, for being such a creative chef. That Peruvian spread sounds incredible!

What is the most obscure thing you have made in the kitchen?
As an Asian, making white sauce was something new to me. I’ve learned that it can be useful in a variety of ways. Who knew white sauce could be such a showstopper?

What class would you like to do in the future?
I would love to take the Italian Cooking Class, the Pasta Workshop, the Chinese Cooking Class, the Paella Workshop, and more!

Any final comments?
I had an amazing experience. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming in their area of expertise. A special thanks to Diana, who always greeted me with big hugs and took great care of me during my stay. Choosing The Avenue was the best decision I made during my 2024 vacation.
