The Avenue’s Weekly Shenanigans is back! We’ve been non-stop this week, with our kitchens full with lots of young, promising chefs, and some great evening classes.

Rounding off last week, Zoe North, who does regular private classes at The Avenue, hosted her birthday at the cookery school. She invited her family in to cook up a delicious Thai Feast, which went down a treat!

We also had two of our most popular classes running, Sunday Brunch Club and Bread Class. The students made the long reigning champion of Brunch: Eggs Benedict, and washed it all down with Bottomless Bloody Mary’s.

On Monday, Zoe came in again for another private lesson with Richard. They had a fun morning making pizza and recipe testing the difference between Bread flour and Pasta flour in the pizza base! They also whipped up a Chicken Ballotyne and some mouthwatering sundried tomatoes with a garlic, chilli and thyme oil – delish!

We also had Paul from Airbnb in to do a photo-shoot at the cookery school. We are going to start running The Sunday Brunch Club as an Experience on their new Airbnb Experiences section of the site, so keep your eyes peeled for this.

We kicked off our Young Holiday Classes on Tuesday. The kids were cooking some really exciting food: Dimsum, Pulled Chicken Bao Buns, Sticky Toffee Bananas with Vanilla Ice Cream and Onion Tart to take home! On Wednesday there were even more yummy delights, Turkey & Courgette Burgers with a Roasted Veg Couscous, Lemon Meringue Roulade and Bacon Dough Sticks with Homemade Chive Butter (which now hold a special place in our hearts). If that doesn’t get kids interested in cooking, we don’t know what will! We’ve just put all our Kids After School and Weekend Cookery Classes on the Website. They’re booking up fast, so make sure your kids don’t miss out this term.

On Tuesday we also held another Knife Skills Class. The students watch a jam-packed demo of all the knife skills you’ll ever need in the kitchen, and then they get to cook up a feast using all the skills they’ve learned. They whipped up a Spiced Butternut Squash Soup, Ratatouille with Sea Bass and Tomato Coulis, Caramelised Oranges. If you want to polish up your technique, take a look at our Knife Skills Class, which runs once a month.

We held our first ever Mexican Street Food Class on Wednesday evening. It was a great class filled with delicious food and wine. The students prepared a spread of Chicken Burritos, Pico de Gallo, Griddled Corn and Fish Tacos. The evening was rounded off with freshly cooked Churros and a mouthwatering chocolate and Dulche de Leche sauce – completely irresistible!

On Friday and Saturday we have Ski Beat taking over the kitchens again to train their Chalet Hosts for this season. We only have a few more weeks of Chalet Cookery Courses before the season begins this Winter, its not too late to get yourself booked on if a Ski Season is on the cards for your Gap year.

Next week we have more kids classes running and some new neighbours coming in to do some filming. Check back in on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates of what we’ve been up to!

But until then…Happy Fri-yay & have a great Bank Holiday!
