Happy October and National Cake Week everyone! And a happy week it was, we have definitely been enjoying the crisp, cool mornings; while indulging in a slice or two of cake.
Our Sunday Kids Weekend Class kicked National Cake Week off with a Weekend Cookery Class. They had a bit of a sugar high from their baking and decorating.
On Monday, we had our Really Useful Course, Off to Uni and Duke of Edinburgh Cookery Courses and also welcomed a new group in for week one of their Chalet and Basic to Brilliant Cookery Courses. The students have been working hard learning new tips and tricks and putting them into practice in the kitchen. You should have seen their lemon meringue tarts, the silky-smooth meringue piled high and toasted golden to perfection… this is what dreams are made of!
Monday’s Kids After School Class conquered the Chocolate Roulade. The kid’s classes are a brilliant after school activity because it’s a chance for young ones to get a proper hands-on session in the kitchen. Every week the menu changes, so they learn new knife skills and cooking techniques all while trying a variety of foods. Before no time, your kid will be a little junior chef in the kitchen.
Tuesday night was a fiesta in the Spanish Tapas Class. The class made a huge selection of authentic Spanish dishes like Spanish Tortilla, Romesco Sauce, Prawns Pil Pil, Pincho Moruno Chicken Skewers, and Olive Oil and Sea Salt Chocolate Pots to name a few. The new amigos went home with their belly’s full and tips on how to seamlessly throw their own tapas party.
For those of you who watch The Apprentice, you might have noticed a familiar kitchen in the burger making scene. Yep that’s right, the Avenue’s kitchen was used in the TV show. Here’s a link if you want to see the Avenue’s shining TV appearance.
On Saturday, Ski Beat will take over the kitchen to train up some of the chalet as well provide some training and answer any burning questions that the students have about the upcoming season.
In the office, we have been busy bees getting ready for this Sunday. Why? Because it’s the Boozy Bloggers Brunch! We’ve been getting deliveries from Yeo Valley, Absolut, Forman and Field, Big Tom, Clarence Court, teapigs, Denhay, Warburtons, Truffle Hunter, PIP Organic and Belazu. And if you’ve seen some of our Instagram stories we have been sharing pictures of stacks of vodka and ‘fans’ of bacon. We are so excited to welcome our bloggers and local press into the kitchen to see what the avenue is all about. For the brunch, everyone will be enjoying bottomless Bloody Mary’s, Eggs Benedict two ways and fresh homemade Soda Bread.
After a mass clean up from the event, the Kids Weekend Cookery Course will be undertaking Chicken Katsu Curry and Rice. A favourite here at the Avenue and soon will be a home-time favourite in the little one’s kitchens, as I imagine they will be begging to cook this supper at home. And there is still space in this Sunday class, if your kids are looking for a fun weekend activity and a kid-free afternoon, for you parents.
Next week we are finishing up with the Chalet Hosts and Basic to Brilliant courses and starting the Intermediate Course. We also have our popular Knife Skills Class on Wednesday where you learn how to chop, dice, mince and chiffonade to make an amazing 3 course dinner, along with unlimited booze. Hurry now and sign up as there are only a few spots left.
We hope you have a great weekend, and check back in next week for more Avenue Shenanigans!
