We’re Hiring a Cookery Teacher (and Future Star Chef!) in London
Have you ever thought, “I love food, I love people, and I wish I could turn that into a job”?
Well… this might just be the dream role for you.
At The Avenue Cookery School, we’re on the lookout for passionate, energetic and food-obsessed Cookery Teachers and Assistants to join our fun, family-run team in Wandsworth.
Who We Are (And Why This Isn’t Your Average Teaching Job)
We’re not a formal, quiet cookery school.
We’re hands-on, social, high-energy and proudly known as “the most fun cookery schools in London”.
Since 2004, we’ve been teaching thousands of adults, kids and families that cooking should feel:
Relaxed
Confidence-building
Social
And genuinely fun
Our classes range from 1 & 2 week courses, to global cuisines and baking, technical skills, kids classes and corporate events — so no two days are ever the same.
The Role: More Than Just Teaching
You’ll start as a Cookery Assistant, supporting our Head Chefs during classes, with real opportunities to grow quickly into a teaching role if you shine.
This is a freelance, flexible position — ideal for someone who wants to build experience in teaching, food education or the culinary world.
Your day-to-day might include:
- Supporting live cookery classes
- Helping students during hands-on cooking
- Assisting with mise en place and kitchen prep
- Recipe testing and kitchen organisation
- Bringing great energy to every class
And yes… helping keep the kitchen in order. (We are a kitchen team after all!)
Who Would Be Perfect for This Job?
We’re looking for someone who is:
- A proactive all-rounder who jumps in without being asked
- A natural entertainer who loves people
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking
- Confident communicating in fluent English
- Calm in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Genuinely obsessed with food
Bonus points if you live in South West London — late evening classes are part of the role!
The Perks 🍝
Working at The Avenue isn’t just a job — it’s being part of a small, fun, food-loving team.
Perks include:
- Meals provided during shifts
- Generous discounts for family and friends
- A young, energetic team environment
- Flexible freelance schedule
- Real progression into a teaching role
- Twice yearly team events
Why Work at a Cookery School?
Unlike restaurant kitchens, this role is:
- Social rather than high-pressure service
- Creative and varied
- People-focused
- Teaching-led instead of purely production
You’ll get to cook, teach, taste, and help people build confidence in the kitchen every single day.

Final Note (From Our Team)

If you’re passionate about food, love people, and want a role that is fun, fast-paced and rewarding — this could be the perfect fit.
