When Gymskin Came to Cook – Inside Our Live Cooking Competition

We recently welcomed fitness influencer Gymskin and his brother @tommytokka, to The Avenue Cookery School for a live cooking competition streamed to thousands of viewers on Kick.

The challenge was simple: learn some knife skills and cook a tuna steak with mango salsa. Rich put on the garage playlist, gave them a quick demo, and then it was time to get cooking.

Learning The Basics

The session started with knife skills. Rich talked them through the fundamentals, from how to hold a knife properly, to a few simple techniques that instantly make cooking easier and safer.

Next up was the Tuna Steak and Mango Salsa, which led to one of our favourite moments of the evening when Gymskin casually mentioned that he’d never eaten tuna that wasn’t from a tin. It’s safe to say fresh tuna was a bit of a revelation.

And The Winner Was…

After a closely fought competition, Gymskin just edged ahead and took the win, much to his brother’s disappointment.
The sibling rivalry definitely added to the fun, and by the end there were some genuinely impressive dishes coming out of the kitchen.

Thousands Tuned In Live on Kick

The whole session was streamed live on Kick to thousands of viewers, who got to watch the cooking, the competition and a few unexpected moments along the way. It was also a good reminder that cookery classes don’t have to be intimidating. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone who only knows tuna from a tin, you can learn a huge amount in just a couple of hours.
