We’re keeping up with the Avenue tradition with a birthday interview! 🎉🎂 Mark your calendars with the 24th April, because we’re celebrating the fabulous Darling Diana’s birthday! 🎈 Let’s make it a day to remember…

Alright, spill the beans! What’s the grand birthday bash plan?
“Spending time with all the kids is really all I want and having dinner at home, cooked by Richard with his complete off-the-wall combination of flavours and dishes. A Big Birthday Bonanza Meal!” 🍽️

Any London dining adventures lately that blew your taste buds away?
“Genuinely not for years…honestly I have never had better food than what we cook in the kitchen”

London foodie bucket list time! Which restaurant is topping your must-try list?
“I’ve had a friend recommend Fire Bird in Soho which I want to try…mainly for the wine” 😉🍷

The Avenue is turning 20 this year! Can you share at least one standout memory with us?
“There are countless memorable moments, but if I had to choose one, it would be witnessing my son Richard’s journey into becoming an extraordinary chef. Seeing him evolve with such passion and skill over the years has truly been a highlight for me. Every time I watch him teach, I’m amazed by his knowledge and expertise. He has a knack for making learning enjoyable and engaging. I often find myself thinking he should be on TV! Proud Mamma!!”

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and what dish would you prepare to impress them?
“Billy Connolly, hands down! He’s so funny and talented. I went to one of his shows and it was definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever been to! Cooking for him, I think I’d go for Beef Shanks with a Gremolata and Mashed Potatoes. Basically, food that means I get to spend less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying the company at the table. And for dessert? A decadent Rich Chocolate Tart with a glass of whisky. Perhaps followed by some impromptu dancing on the tables …. once they’re cleared, of course, my darlings!” This dinner party sounds like fun🕺🏻🤣

What’s your secret to staying so energetic and vibrant?
“Cold water bath followed by an hour-long workout BEFORE work—that’s your secret sauce for staying energised all day long! It’s like giving your batteries a full charge before tackling the day ahead. Brilliant!”

Which three spices are your ride or die kitchen companions? 🌶️
“Let’s go with cayenne pepper which I have with everything, cinnamon and – lil cheat – but I LOVE miso paste”

Alright, time to ‘fess up! What’s your guilty pleasure grub that you can’t resist, even if it’s not super gourmet?
“Rice or Pasta with Beurre Noisette and Parmesan Cheese – off the bloody wall!”

If you were to write your memoirs, what would you title the journey of your life?
“I made it in the end!” This one would be a page-turner 📖😂

Lastly With two decades of The Avenue down, where do you see it heading in the future?
“Fingers crossed for additional schools! One in North London, another just outside the city, and even one on the coast for kiteboarding and windsurfing during breaks” Sea swims after work sounds like a plan
Thanks, Diana and a very happy birthday – enjoy the family, some food and delicious wine…
