July’s Amigo of The Month

July’s Amigo of The Month

We’re at that time of the month again where we celebrate our Avenue Amigos, and this month it’s one of our absolute favourite couples, Hanne and Knut!

Hanne & Knut Hauge

Hanne and Knut from Sweden have been to classes at The Avenue both in London and ‘virtually’ in lockdown. They hope for even more online classes in the future, as they’ve both enjoyed them so much 😊

In London, Hanne and Knut have taken part in the Bottomless Brunch Class and the Quick Curry Class, together with the kids and Hanne’s Dad. Online, they have done the Sushi Workshop, Beef Wellington and the Valentines Mexican. All excellent choices!

They both say that having Diana on Google Meets in their kitchen in Sweden is just splendid! “We learn so much more one on one, because it is just us, and Diana has so much time to give advice on knife skills and other aspects of cooking.” says Hanne. They feel as if they’ve really got to know Diana better over time, which we love!

“The online courses are a perfect way to combine two of our hobbies, cooking and London,” says Hanne. “We live in a small town with limited offer of exciting shops or restaurants, and the courses gives us some of the inspiration we love to get in London.”

When asked what their favourite thing to cook is, they both said “Curries! The whole family love curries, but we have to drive for an hour to get to the nearest Indian restaurant. Which we of course don’t do these days, so we do anything we can to recreate the food at home.” And you know what, we’d bet the curries they can now make are a cut above the takeaways! 😉

Some of their favourite things to make that Knut and Hanne learnt at The Avenue are the Quick Curry and Brunch recipes. Knut now makes the Naan Bread from scratch every time they have a curry, which is about once a week.
At the weekend, they spend time making a breakfast like the ones they had in the UK, with Poached Eggs and Hollandaise they learnt from the Bottomless Brunch Class. Knut says, “Since we did the Brunch Class, we have never bought pre-made or sauce mix béarnaise, we make the hollandaise and add tarragon. It’s worth the few minutes of whisking, and we are never looking back.” If that doesn’t convince you to book a spot on the Bottomless Brunch Class, we don’t know what will!?

During lockdown, we asked them if they’d tried any crazy recipes and they said that trying to make exciting food has helped get them through these difficult times. Since working from home during the pandemic, it has given them both the chance to invest some of the time they’d usually have commuting, into trying to make exciting food.

And finally, we asked what classes they would like to try in the future and Knut said, “We really hope The Avenue continues with online classes after lockdown is over. Although we love to spend time in Wandsworth, the possibilities to do classes are much greater from home. There are so many of the classes we would like to do!”

Thanks again Knut and Hanne, for always being such loyal Amigos!
