Meet Basil, June 2024’s Amigo of The Month! Basil’s super dad Graham has been sending Basil to our Young Holiday Classes for years, and now he’s not only a regular in the kitchen but a total chef extraordinaire! ‍

How did you hear about The Avenue?
“My sister went before with her friend and raved about it, so I was keen to see what it was all about”

How long have you been joining classes?
“The first time I went, it was to a half-term Holiday class with my sister 3 years ago”

Which classes have you done?
“Because my school is not nearby, I cannot make it in time for after-school classes, so I go on school holidays on the Young Holiday Class

What was your favourite class at The Avenue?
“I loved learning how to make my own homemade pasta – I had never done that before, or even seen it done!” We do agree that making pasta is not only fun but delicious!

What’s your favourite dish to cook that you learnt with us?
“I loved making Brioche bread  – because you get to knead it which is very fun!”

What was your favourite dish to eat at The Avenue?
“The Cinnamon Rolls were a real treat!” Nothing like sweet cinnamon bread!

What is the most obscure thing you have made in the kitchen?
“I have always loved Chicken Satay but when I learned to cook it I was very surprised at the mix of ingredients: lime, honey and peanut butter”

What class would you like to do in the future?
“I would love to learn about making sushi on the Sushi Workshop as I love all Japanese food!” Maybe our Japanese Class is a good one for the future!

Any final comments?
“My favourite instructor chef is Dan the Man”. We’ll pass the message on!

We’re so proud of Basil’s journey from a young enthusiast to a culinary whiz. Keep cooking, Basil!
