Meet Faris! From mastering Roast Potatoes to discovering Focaccia for the first time, Faris has been cooking up a storm with us for the past two years. We caught up with him to talk favourite classes, standout dishes and why coming hungry is always a good idea…
How did you first find us? (Instagram scroll? Friend recommendation? Happy accident?)
My friend had done some cooking classes and asked me if I wanted to join, so I did and I loved it. Always nice to get a friend referral – hello Avenue Amigo stamp!
How long have you been cooking with us?
About two years.
Which classes have you joined so far?
I’ve done loads of the Young Holiday Classes, each week is a different menu, to name a few: Sunday Roast, Bolognese, Lasagne, Katsu Curry, baking and more. No sign of slowing down yet then?
If you had to pick… which Young Holiday Class was your favourite?
The Chicken Katsu Curry, because it’s my favourite dish and I took the class with a few of my friends, which made it even more fun!
What’s your go-to dish now that you learned with us? (The one you secretly feel smug about)
Definitely the roast, especially the potatoes. They’re even better than my dad’s, and he’s been cooking roasts for years. He actually uses my potato recipe now, or rather, The Avenue’s! When parents start taking notes of their kids cooking, you know you’ve nailed it.
What’s the best thing you’ve eaten at The Avenue?
The roast was absolutely delicious, and it was really fun to make. The teacher named the chickens Georgie and Ted, which made me laugh a lot. That sounds like our Diana!
What’s the most unexpected or obscure thing you’ve ever made in the kitchen?
Focaccia – I didn’t even know what it was until I learned how to make it, and now I love it. Squidy bread with delicious toppings – what’s not to love!
Which Young Holiday Class menu is next on your wish list?
Sushi and Cupcakes – two of my favourite things in one lesson!
Anything else you’d like to tell us? (Praise, feedback, dramatic declarations welcome.)
I like how I always come in hungry and leave full, and it’s always lots of fun. That’s exactly our goal!
Thanks for joining us for this February 2025’s Amigos of the Month. The classes mentioned in this post:
