COVID Update!

This document was last updated on the 23rd February 2021 as per Boris’ announcement on the 22nd February. We will be updating the information after each relevant government announcement so keep an eye out for updates!

As you can imagine we are still busy with emails and we just ask for your patience in receiving a response at this time. Please keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folder just in case) for details about your class. We also recommend checking this page again before any future class in order to check for any updates of how we are running during these times.

N.B. We will always be running our private online classes (see here to see what is on offer) and will always have vouchers galore available (see here) for the perfect present to enjoy.

8th March – We will be running our Kids Classes (with parents/guardians also welcome) and 1 & 2-week courses with the below precautions in place.

12th April – We plan to be running all classes and courses as normal with the below precautions in place.

What to expect at a class during COVID times? Participants will have a designated cooking station, where they will be throughout their experience with us. This will include the demonstration, cooking and eating. Our large social dining table will need to be made redundant until further notice, however we will do our best to ensure a fun and social experience within the islands you are grouped onto.

1 & 2-week Courses, how will these run? As an educational facility we will be running under the government guidelines for schools and will implement these to the best of our ability. During your course with us you will be partnered with one other, creating a social bubble of 2 while maintaining social distancing with the other students where possible.
Please note that this will be automatic on booking, however, should you be uncomfortable with this please do get in touch before booking to let us know and we can see if it is possible to accommodate you on your own.

Kids classes, how will these run? As an educational facility we will be running under the government guidelines for schools and will implement these to the best of our ability. During kids’ classes we will have tables of 6 kids. Please note that this will be automatic on booking, however should you be uncomfortable with this please do get in touch before booking to let us know and we can see if it is possible to accommodate your child on their own.

Will I have my own cooking island? During your class you, and other participants you have booked with, will be on a cooking island with another household while maintaining social distancing. Households can range from 1 to 3 people.

If I drop my kids off at the school can I enter the school? For health & safety measures we ask you to drop your kids off at the door and to not enter the kitchen. A chef will be there to welcome them.
When you collect them please wait outside and your child will look out for you.

Will you be taking any precautionary tests on arrival? We will be checking everyone’s temperature with our contactless thermometer on arrival in order to limit the risk of spreading the virus. Please be aware that if your temperature is above 37.5C we will not be able to allow you into the cookery school.

Does everyone have to wear a face mask? As per government guidelines it will be mandatory for you to wear a face mask on arrival until you are seated at your island where you can remove your mask, as you will be eating and drinking during your experience. We also ask you to wear a mask if leaving your island when going to the loo and leaving after the class. Our chefs will be wearing masks throughout the class and should you wish to wear a face mask for extra precaution in between eating and drinking when at your cooking island we encourage you to do so.

Will we need to wear gloves? No, we ask that you do not wear gloves. As suggested by the WHO, the use of hand sanitiser and washing of hands is more effective in the prevention of spreading the virus rather than wearing gloves.

Does everyone have to social distance? The kitchen is laid out in order for participants to respect social distancing rules. Our chefs will go round during the class to help customers while maintaining these guidelines to the best of their ability.

Will the kitchen be cleaned between each class? Yes, we have a minimum 2-hour slot in-between classes in order to sterilise the kitchen, loo and all public areas for the next class.

Will hand sanitiser be provided? Yes, we will have hand sanitiser available for everyone to use on their cooking islands.

Will there be access to a public loo? Yes, there will be access to a loo and we will have necessary precautions in place, including hand sanitiser on your islands.

Can I get a refund if the class is cancelled? Absolutely. If you booked a class directly (not using a voucher) and we unfortunately have to cancel the class, you will be offered a date transfer or a full refund.

Test and Trace – We have the NHS Test and Trace system on arrival where you can scan a QR code and enter your information.

If you have any questions or suggestions please don’t hesitate to get in touch, as you can imagine this has been, and still is, a learning process for us and all involved. Our email is info@theavenuecookeryschool.com.
