Exploring London’s Culinary Scene: Top Food Tour to complement your Cooking Lessons

As avid food enthusiasts, we are always on the lookout for new culinary experiences. So when the opportunity arose to join Sherpa Food Tours’ London Food Tour, we jumped at the chance.

Little did we know we were in for a truly delightful and surprisingly educational adventure through the heart of Soho. Our journey, alongside 2 delightful Irish women, began in the enchanting hidden courtyard of Neal’s Yard, a colourful and historical spot nestled in the vibrant Soho area. Here, we were treated to our first culinary delight: a classic Cheese & Pickle sandwich from St John’s Bakery, paired with a crisp, refreshing craft cider from a local brewery. The perfect start to a food-filled day!

Nic, our incredibly knowledgeable and charismatic guide, wasn’t just leading us on a food tour; he was leading us on a journey through Soho’s hidden history and culture. We weaved through the streets, our senses engaged by the vibrant street art and the subtle hints of hidden signs and symbols pointing to the area’s rich pasts. Each location offered a new culinary experience, a delightful taste of Soho’s diverse gastronomic landscape. We sampled everything from delicious Marmite & Mushroom Choux Buns, to melt-in-your-mouth Short Rib Bao Buns. The Gunpowder Chicken from Mowgli was a favourite and flavourful delight. The tour culminated in a cosy local pub, the perfect spot to unwind and reflect on the delicious journey we’d experienced. A half pint and a sticky toffee pudding rounded off the day in British style – a sweet ending to a savoury adventure.

Beyond the sheer deliciousness of the food, what impressed me most was Nic’s passion and knowledge of Soho’s history. His commentary wasn’t just about the food; it was about the culture and the people who make Soho what it is. Sherpa Food Tours are not just about eating but about discovering a place, its people, and its unique heritage. I highly recommend Sherpa Food Tours to both those visiting London and those just looking for a new foodie adventure in their home city, or indeed, anywhere else in the world where they operate. They also offer fantastic-sounding tours in Amsterdam and many other locations globally – we’ve already added a few to our travel bucket list!
