Good afternoon everyone! 😍 We hope you’re all feelin’ luuuuurved up (and full up) after this week’s Valentine’s foodie antics 💚 The London sun has popped in to say a warm hello and we are feeling gooooood!

It’s been super busy once again at The Avenue and there is tonnes to fill you in on! Speaking of fillings, did everyone enjoy pancake day this week? We couldn’t get enough. We flipped pancake day on its head and decided to do things a little differently… 😋 Last week was a very sweet week for us (i’m sure you’re aware), so we wanted to treat those of you who were craving something a little more savoury! We released a gorgeous Duck Pancake recipe just in time for supper. If you haven’t yet managed to check it out, we highly recommend doing so, especially all you budding chefs – it’s not for the faint of heart! 😏 You can enjoy these lovely little duck-hugging pancakes with whatever filling you fancy, so let us know how you’ve decided to switch it up….

Anyway, let’s dive straight into Monday 😛 It was the start of our extended courses, hellllls yea! Really Useful, Off to Uni and Duke of Edinburgh Residential Courses. Everone was busy in the kitchen from the early hours of the morning preparing our exciting day ahead. By 9 am the class was full of hungry mouths and extremely eager students. The lovely Diana began the class with an introduction and welcomed everyone in true Diana style, followed by the first of this week’s demonstrations. From Vicky Sponge, Diana’s Bread and the perfect White Sauce, to Choccy Roulade (can’t get enough) and Lasagne – they covered it all. Of course, we office lot spend each lunchtime taking our sweeeet time choosing exactly what we fancy – this being eeeeeverything. With a successful kick-start to the day, Zoe also joined us in the kitchen. The vibe was buzzing! The afternoon sunshine began to creep through and everyone spent the day mingling with one another and revelling in their gorgeous foodie creations! In fact, we really were sad to say goodbye to Monday! 

Day 2 of our week-long course and by 8.30am, the fresh smell of Diana’s bread had began to stream outta the doors again, while the warming sun was out to keep us smiling, and it did a bloomin’ good job of it. We even had a little doggo friend in the office to keep us company!

With the puppy in the office, back in the kitchen, the students were really starting to get the hang of things! The lulling smell of roast chicken filled the office and lured us all into the kitchen pretty swiftly. We were impressed, to say the least. Who else do you know that gets treated to full roast dins on a Tuesday afternoon, from the comfort of their own workplace? We do!!! We finished off with a generous serving of Apple Crumble and custard and then finally crept back into the office to let everyone crack on with their afternoon cooking.

It was pancake day on Tuesday and as mentioned, we had released a great pancake recipe. Not your usual, but still god damn tasty. Tuesday flew past and all the way into yet ANOTHER evening class! With one lot of budding chefs out the kitchen doors, it was in with the new. Greeted by a chilled glass of vino, students began to prepare for our Knife Skills class. A menu classic. Spiced Butternut Squash Soup followed by Seabass and a Rataouille. Don’t we treat you… the boozey class went down a treat and everyone left with a whole new lease of cookery life! Thanks, Rich and Diana, you’ve done it again.

Gagging to get back in on Wednesday to see what delicious morning bakes were in the oven, we bulldozed through the doors. We were not disappointed – it was Valentine’s day and we were greeted with a gorgeous selection of tarts. No, not that kind of tart! – we like to keep things PG… but we had a fab selection of Lemon Meringue Pie, Treacle Tart or Ginger and Pecan tart! Dayyyyum. Hectic is one word to describe Wednesday. Well, hectic and tasty of course. We had our 9-5pm course running smoothly throughout the day followed by Cooking with Cupid in the City and at homeFULLY BOOKED may we add. It really was all teams go go go. We all mucked in and whisked Rich away in the Avenue smart car with all our heart shaped kitchen equipment and some gorgeous red roses. N’awwww… lucky ladies. Everyone was on a high and we had Diana’s playlist of love songs serenading us while we prepped for the evening. Soph and Shanga even threw their own mini Sushi Class – at home! These Horsfords don’t seem to stop…50 glasses of wine down and finally…we poured another.

On Thursday we took our sore heads back to Wandsworth for yet another fun-filled day. When we say fun, we mean fun. The students were throwing everyone a dinner party! Parents, friends, and office peeps were all invited and although we may have had a little too much booze last night (being valentine’s day and all), by lunchtime we were beginning to wonder if wine with every meal was acceptable. The students worked their Avenue aprons to the absolute ground! The menu included a heap of delicious treats. Smoked Mackerel and Chicken Liver Pate, Bruschetta, Melba Toast, Coronation Chicken and too much more to mention. Oh, we will mention the profiteroles though – they’re serious to die for. The evening was really one to remember, which finished with the Avenue crew finishing off with a bit of a party and a game of Articulate and an early morning finish! Shout out to all our wonderful students for throwing an amazing night – it was lovely to meet and mingle with everyone’s family and friends. Good company, good food and good wine. What more could you possibly want on a Thursday evening?

So, here we are again… Friday. Although we are feeling a little fragile, everyone is busy in the kitchen perfecting the perfect hangover breakfast. Eggs benny, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, homemade bread… DREAMY. Today is the final day of their course so it will be sad to say goodbye. It’s been a crazy week and we have loved every single minute of it. Tonight we’ll be throwing yet another belated Valentine’s celebration, vegan style. They’ll be making our favourite Avocado Chocolate Mousse this evening so they’re in for a treat. Rich has perfected his Vegan brownie recipes after numerous trial and error attempts and they are A-mazing. The lucky lot that are coming along to our Vegan Ready Steady Bake class this Sunday get to make them. Alongside Banana and Peanut Butter Cupcakes, Carrot Cake and Cookies. We’ll also be running our usual Ready Steady Bake Class on Sunday – the fun and treats never stop!
