Ingredients:
95g cooked smoked bacon or chestnuts, roughly chopped
60ml maple syrup
70g butter, cubed
150g plain flour
1 tsp sugar
½ tsp baking powder
1g baking soda
65ml buttermilk
egg yolk
salt
To serve
clotted cream or Chantilly cream
Method
Preheat oven to 170C
Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt. Then mix the butter in with your finger tips until the mix resembles breadcrumbs.
Add the buttermilk and bacon and form into a dough.
Shape into 60g scones- and put onto a lined baking sheet.
Brush with the egg yolk and bake for 15 minutes.
Drizzle with the maple syrup and put back in and bake for 4 minutes
Serve as a bread alternative!
