This extensive and fun Yacht Host Course is perfect for anyone looking to complete a yacht season as a host or an on-board cook. We will teach you a huge range of delicious dishes as well as giving you some useful hosting tips that will be invaluable when out at sea. Our experienced chefs are full of tips and tricks about what we like to call yacht-keeping (housekeeping, just at sea). Clever!
In this intensive 2-week course we will teach you how to cook without a cookbook so you can transfer your skills to other recipes and create things from scratch.
Starting with the basics and finishing off with more advanced cooking, including catering for dietary requirements, we will give you the opportunity to embark on your cooking journey with delicious recipes and time saving techniques. Just being able to save a couple of minutes on each task will really add up and make your time as a host that much easier and smooth sailing! Trust us, we have found out the hard way so you don’t have to!
Every morning will start with a demonstration from our informed chefs equipping you with the knowledge of what you will be cooking that morning. Having made and eaten your own lunch, you will then sit down for the second demonstration of the day, providing you with insight for your afternoon cook.
Each day you will learn new skills and recipes whilst mastering useful basic kitchen skills, you will also learn a fantastic array of more advanced kitchen talents and dishes. From hosting, to breakfasts and light lunches, all the way to sophisticated suppers – you won’t believe your new found confidence in the kitchen to host and prepare with ease. You will be able to overcome the storms that season life can throw at you so you can spend more time doing the fun stuff!
On the first Thursday you will hold a dinner party with the rest of the group. You will get to invite a couple of friends/family members to the event, which gives you a great chance to not only learn to cook for larger numbers and host a dinner party, but also to show off your new found culinary skills!
While we will help with everything that we possibly can (even having a look over your CV before applying for jobs), the best chance of you bagging your dream yacht hosting job, will boil down to you. Hard work and elbow grease will definitely be worth it when you are sat on deck watching the sunset over the water and silently (or not so silently, we don’t mind!) thanking The Avenue for giving you the tools you needed to achieve this wonderful job.

N.B. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend gaining some experience in the hospitality industry such as in a restaurant, bar or cafe before applying to jobs for the winter season.
If you have already mastered the basics of cooking, you can join straight into week 2 for our 1 week Intermediate Cookery Course to just spruce up your already obtained skills. If you aren’t sure if you have enough experience get in touch with us here.
If you want to take the full two week course but you can’t do consecutive weeks, we can take split bookings for different weeks just get in touch.
For accommodation you will stay at an amazing family run B&B that we have worked closely with for years.
Rooms will be separate male or female shared rooms. A guaranteed private room can be arranged at an extra cost, just contact us for details.
For those who live further afield there are options of arriving Sunday night and staying for the full 2 weeks or just the week nights. If you would like more lights just get in touch.
Breakfast will be provided every morning and dinner will be provided every weekday evening. If you are staying Sunday night you will need to eat before you arrive.
