Happy Birthday Charlotte!

Happy Birthday Charlotte! From jammy tortillas in San Sebastián to Georgian food on Essex Road, Charlotte’s food world is built on bold flavours, simple perfection, and a strong sense of what’s worth going back for. We asked her a few quick-fire foodie questions to find out what she really eats, loves, and can’t stop thinking about…
Imagine you’ve just been handed the keys to your very own food truck – what’s it called, and what deliciousness are you serving up?
I’m slightly obsessed with making hummus, so I’d have loads of different flavours served with warm, fresh pitta. You could grab lunch and take a tub home because homemade hummus is so much better than anything you’ll find in a supermarket.
Or… I’d spend my summers driving around North London in a vintage ice cream van that I’d converted into a takeaway margarita truck. I feel like people would be very happy to see me pull up. 🍹
What’s your wildest, most chaotic food combo that somehow works… and would probably make Gordon Ramsay gasp?
I don’t think I have many weird food habits… or at least no one’s ever called me out on them! But I could happily eat mayonnaise with pretty much anything.
We all have them – which dish secretly makes you side-eye other people ordering it?
I’m not super judgemental when it comes to food but I did see someone order and eat a lasagne on an easyJet flight recently which I thought was rogue (not to mention it was 1am)
You’ve woken up with a hangover from the depths of hell – what magical meal or snack brings you back to life?
Hash browns, every time – in bread with chilli ketchup.
On your travels beyond the UK, what’s the meal you can’t stop thinking about? The one that made you go “wow, this is unforgettable”?
San Sebastián is up there for me. I had a Tortilla de Patatas at Bar Antonio that was just incredible, really jammy in the middle and nothing like any tortilla I’ve had before. They only make 10 each day, so you have to get there early or miss out. And then there’s the Basque cheesecake at La Viña… probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Back on home turf, what’s a memorable meal you’ve had in the UK? Bonus points if you tell us the restaurant and the dish – we’re secretly mapping out the ultimate foodie trail!
I really love Georgian food, and Saperavi Social on Essex Road is a great spot for it, especially their Georgian wine selection. I’m also a big fan of Holy Carrot, which I think is one of the best vegetarian restaurants in London (they just opened a new branch in Spitalfields that I’m actually planning to have my birthday meal at.) And a special shoutout to the best falafel wrap at Zeytoon

What is the best biscuit and don’t hold back, we want the full justification!
It has to be the M&S milk chocolate rounds – really chunky, properly crunchy.
If you could only eat one type of cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be, and why would it never get boring?
It would have to be Indian food. There’s such a plethora of spices, flavours and dishes, from curries to street snacks to soups and breads. It’s incredibly varied, and I love how much it changes from region to region. It just never feels repetitive… it’s simply delicious.
What’s the one item or condiment you reach for most in your kitchen – the unsung hero of all your cooking?
Really good extra virgin olive oil and Maldon salt
Hard-hitting foodie question: Which supermarket is your ultimate favourite and what’s the one thing you absolutely can’t leave without?
Marks & Spencer is my go-to, they’ve got great crisps, and their whipped cream cheese is honestly so good.
Strong snacks, strong opinions, and absolutely no weak biscuits in sight, thank you Charlotte and have a great birthday!
