Meet Eleanor – April 2025’s Amigo of The Month! She’s not just a cooking class regular—she’s a true Avenue Cookery School veteran, and we’re lucky to have her in the kitchen (and her mum, too)!

How did you hear about The Avenue?
My husband bought the Cooking With Cupid – Valentine’s Day Class as a gift, but when he caught Covid, my mum stepped in as my date. It was a little awkward being the only non-romantic couple in a room full of lovebirds, but nothing says ‘true love’ like a mum and daughter duo sharing melt in the middle chocolate fondants! True love comes in many forms, especially when chocolate fondants are involved!

How long have you been joining classes?
I’ve been attending for almost 3 years now. It’s quickly become my go-to spot for both learning and having a good time! Glad we are hitting the spot!

Which classes have you done?
I’ve done a variety of classes from Cooking With Cupid, Korean, Pastel De Nata, Peruvian, Perfect Roast Class, French, Mexican, and Japanese. So just a few then…

What’s your favourite Class at The Avenue?
Tough call! But if I had to choose, I’d say the Korean Class. The flavours were amazing. Plus, cooking with family made it extra special.
What’s your favourite dish to cook that you learnt with us?
The Japanese menu was a highlight. Not only super easy to recreate at home – you can leave it to do its thing while you get on with other things – but also rich, comforting, and packed with flavour. It’s the kind of dish you want to eat again and again. Katsu Curry – Fried Chicken with a Curry Sauce, what could be more comforting!
What was your favourite dish to eat at The Avenue?
The Pastel De Nata‘s. It’s a fun dish to make, and always goes down well with my colleagues at work when I have been baking them over the weekend. You must be popular at work!
What is the most obscure thing you have made in the kitchen?
Probably the Peruvian Ceviche. It’s not something I’d typically attempt at home, but after The Avenue’s class, I felt like a pro.

What class would you like to do in the future?
I’d love to do a Thai Class. The spices and balance of flavours really intrigue me. We’re here for you whenever you’re ready!

Any final comments?
The Avenue is such a fun and welcoming place. It is where cooking becomes less intimidating and a lot more fun. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or someone who still burns toast, there’s something for everyone and the team makes you feel right at home. Highly recommend!

This is so lovely to hear! We’re all about making cooking fun and approachable, no matter your skill level (burnt toast happens to the best of us!). Thank you for being an Amigo and we can’t wait to have you back in the kitchen for more foodie fun!
