Meet Nigel – April 2026’s Amigo of The Month! We caught up with one of our fabulous students to hear about their journey with us – from an Avenue flyer to mastering Durian ice cream…
How did you first find us?
You had a stall at a festival on North End Road in Fulham a few years ago and I picked up a flyer – we love a serendipitous moment!
How long have you been cooking with us?
Since January 2026
Which classes have you joined so far?
I did the 1 week Really Useful Course with my daughter Georgia We love family joining our family
What’s your go-to dish now that you learned with us? (The one you secretly feel smug about)
Victoria Sponge Cake. I just love the contrast between the simplicity of the process and the quality of the outcome. Nothing beats a classic!
What’s the best thing you’ve eaten at The Avenue?
Beef Curry A delicious flavour bomb!
What’s the most unexpected or obscure thing you’ve ever made in the kitchen?
Durian ice cream, which is also one of the best things I’ve ever made. Bold choice!
Which class is next on your wish list?
I’m torn between Peruvian, Indian and Middle Eastern.… why not all three?
Any final comments?
I’ve been the main family cook for 20 years but am self-taught and have always wanted to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge. My elder daughter did the course eight months before I did, and I was so impressed with the quality of the food that she was bringing home that I decided to sign up. I ended up doing the course with my younger daughter, which was really good fun. Family bonding, food, and a knowledge upgrade, sounds like a perfect mix!
From spotting our flyer at a local festival to cooking alongside both his daughters, Nigel’s story shows how a little curiosity can turn into delicious family memories
